Chandler High School Receives Invitation to 2005 Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Chandler High School Wolf Pack Pride Marching Band of Chandler was selected to represent the state of Arizona at the 2005 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship, Fiesta Bowl Board Member Dick Stemple announced.
Each year one band is selected to represent the state of Arizona by a Fiesta Bowl committee that evaluates applicants’ merits and performance. This year’s Arizona representative is Mountain Pointe High School of Phoenix, which will compete at the 27th Annual Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Bank One Ballpark.
Chandler High School earned the invitation for next year’s National Band Championship, after its performance at the Marcos de Niza Tournament of Champions on Oct. 23. There were 16 Arizona marching bands at the invitational, with eight of those advancing to the selection show where Fiesta Bowl officials extended the invitation to Chandler High School.
“Chandler High School’s presentation was very, very dramatic with an outstanding presentation of both musical and visual performances,” Stemple said. “The Wolf Pack Pride will be an exciting entry as the 2005 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Honor Band.”
Chandler High School was presented with a special traveling trophy from title sponsor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona in honor of their invitation. Each participating Arizona band since 1992 is noted on the trophy that will go on display for one year after being selected. In addition to the traveling trophy, the Chandler High School Wolf Pack Pride Marching Band also received a $2,000 donation to their band fund from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship has been creating and providing positive experiences for students, teachers, parents, families and communities for many years. Celebrating its 27th year in the Valley of the Sun as one of the Fiesta Bowl’s longest running events, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship has distinguished itself as one of the most prestigious high school marching band competitions in the nation.
Featuring more than 3,000 of the nation’s top musicians and color guard members from high schools across the nation, the young men and women participating have dedicated themselves to an important endeavor that builds teamwork, self-esteem and time management skills.
