CITY'S PRIDE COMMITTEE RECOGNIZES DOWNTOWN BEAUTIFICATION EFFORTS
The Scottsdale Pride Committee has created the "Downtown Business Enhancement Award" program to recognize downtown beautification efforts.
The program recognizes commercial properties in downtown Scottsdale that have made significant exterior structure or landscape beautification enhancements. Recently, nine downtown business owners were presented a certificate and a 2005 "Downtown Business Enhancement Award" window decal for permanent display.
The award-winning properties are: Acme; Adobe Animal Hospital; Bada Boom Pasta Room; Furio; On the Border; French's; LaKae Gallery; James George building with Gallery Andre, Greg Lawson Galleries and Hasbrook Interiors; and Steven Paul Salon.
Scottsdale Pride, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful Inc., is dedicated to preserving
and enhancing the environment and quality of life in our community and Arizona.
The committee was established in 1993 and is composed of volunteers appointed by the Mayor and City Council who work diligently to promote environmental awareness and
pride in the community.

SCOTTSDALE LIFEGUARDS FULFILLING "80 DAYS OF PURPOSE"
Being a lifeguard is just that - protecting the health and safety of people in and around swimming pools.
Scottsdale's lifeguard and pool management staff were given red bracelets at the beginning of summer to promote safety through a theme of "80 Days of Purpose."
The program focused on three themes:
** SAFETY- the primary purpose as a lifeguard is to ensure customer safety and protect lives-including our own.
** SERVICE- a secondary purpose is to provide quality service, strive to exceed the expectations of our customers, and make their experience fun and enjoyable.
** SHARP- a third purpose is to act and look professional by responding appropriately in any situation. Skills, appearance and the facility should look and be razor-sharp.
At a midsummer's meeting, Scottsdale's pool staff had maintained a strong safety record - and so many lifeguards were still sporting the bracelets that organizers ran out of free drink coupons they were providing wearers.
